Throughout Verizon’s heritage the company has made environmental stewardship part of its business model for success, and continually looks for ways to reduce their environmental impact and improve operational efficiency.
Verizon has initiated a range of energy-conservation programs, from operating the nation’s largest fuel cell, to using solar panels, to requiring suppliers to provide energy efficient equipment. The company’s efforts have not gone unnoticed, as Verizon was added to the Dow Jones Sustainability North America Index in September 2009, and remains the only telecommunications company in the U.S. to be named to the index.
Verizon has been recognized with several awards for its commitment to operating in an environmentally-friendly manner:
- Verizon was named to the 100 Best Corporate Citizens list for 2008 and 2009 by CRO magazine, which factors in a company’s activities on climate change and the environment.
- Verizon’s environmental policies and customer-facing initiatives earned Frost & Sullivan’s 2008 Green Excellence of the Year Award.
