On a list of the ‘Greenest Big Companies in America’ published in News Week magazine, HP is ranked #1. HP has initiated impressive green corporate policies which have not only lowered the company’s environmental impact, but have also substantially helped its bottom line. Launched in 1987, HP’s PC-recycling program, wherein HP pays consumers to ship back obsolete machines, will have recycled some 2 billion pounds of electronic products and supplies by the end 2010. A notable achievement is HP’s progress on its 2010 environment goals, which strove to reduce the energy consumption and associated greenhouse gas emissions of HP operations and products by 25% below 2005 levels by the end of 2010. In September 2009, over a year in advance, HP met this goal, and has since pledged to reduce its energy consumption and associated GHG emissions to 40% below 2005 levels by the end of 2011. For all of its extensive environmental efforts, HP is heralded as a leader in corporate environmental responsibility. |
