Corning goes to great lengths to ensure that, with the help of some of the brightest scientific and engineering minds in the world, their impact on the environment is positive: from developing products that help deliver a greener future for our planet, to manufacturing operations that reduce waste, to community outreach programs geared toward advocating and educating green practices.

In terms of products, Corning’s innovation led to their pioneering catalytic converters that reduce harmful engine emissions. On top of this, their research and development of large substrates and filters for diesel engines has allowed us to enjoy a higher quality of clean-air. Corning has also been a leader in developing LCD glass without any added heavy metals or halides, which makes new TV’s much more eco-friendly before, during and after their use in homes around the world.

Corning also strongly believes that the most effective way to help the environment is to use less energy. In 2005, they formulated a Global Energy Management (GEM) strategy with the aim of reducing their overall consumption of fuel. To do so, Corning initiated studies of their manufacturing processes in order to find ways of increasing energy efficiency and maintaining more energy-efficient buildings, from their plants to their commercial offices.

Perhaps most impressive is Corning’s involvement in environmental responsibility programs in the communities where they operate. For instance, each Earth Day Corning partners with local agencies to encourage responsible recycling of electronic equipment, collecting more than 40 tons of used electronics at the most recent event.

Corning’s attention to improving the environment through eco-friendly products, operational sustainability, and their involvement in community environmental management programs makes them a global leader in corporate environmental responsibility.
