PROVO, Utah--Vivint Inc.™, the largest home automation services company in North America, and Vivint Solar™, a leading provider of simple, affordable solar solutions, are celebrating National Green Week (Feb. 4–8) by offering sustainable, energy-saving home automation and solar energy systems.
The Vivint energy management solution allows consumers to monitor and adjust the amount of energy they use in their homes, even when on the road. Whether traveling for work, vacation, or simply driving around town, homeowners can manage thermostats, lighting features, and small appliances all from a smartphone or computer.
Since switching to the Vivint energy system, Jennifer Mann, of Holly Springs, North Carolina, said she has noticed a $40 to $50 savings every month in her utility bills. “I am the kind of person who is always changing the temperature in my house. I used to walk by my thermostat and adjust it a few degrees five or six times a day, and I used to be up several times per night as well. Now, I can wake up in the night and change the thermostat from my phone without even getting out of bed.”
Vivint Solar is changing the way people power their homes, and is one of the nation’s fastest growing solar photovoltaic providers. Customers save money on energy through a power purchase agreement (PPA), in which customers agree to purchase power from Vivint Solar at rates significantly lower than their typical power bill. In exchange, Vivint Solar designs, installs, and maintains the solar energy system for free, allowing customers to enjoy the benefits of renewable solar energy without a large, up-front investment.
Deborah Schoenborn, of Maywood, New Jersey, transformed her home into a green home by signing up for Vivint Solar. "Thanks to Vivint Solar, I have a wonderful way to use natural energy from the sun to power my home," said Schoenborn. “The Vivint Solar installation crew was pleasant, respectful, and had the system installed in less than a day. I’m very excited to have Vivint Solar help me go green—and save money at the same time.”
Vivint Solar offers customers several advantages, including free installation, monitoring, and maintenance of solar panels, and the ability to purchase the power generated by the panels for a lower rate than they typically pay their utility company.

Vivint

PROVO, JAN 3 - Vivint, the largest home automation services company in North America, today announced it raised $1.5 million through its 2012 Vivint Gives Back Year of Service campaign. The initiative included volunteer work by nearly 3,000 Vivint employees, who donated roughly 23,00 hours of their time.
The Vivint Gives Back campaign provides hands-on service to wide-ranging communities to aid those in need. The $1.5 million was generated solely through employee contributions and Vivint corporate matches. The money was distributed to 20 different international relief organizations, including a $200,000 cash donation to The Global Poverty Project, a group dedicated to eliminating extreme poverty.
In 2012, Vivint Gives Back partnered with numerous organizations including Habitat for Humanity, the Ronald McDonald House Charities, and Tapestries of Life in several charitable ventures. In addition, Vivint employees also took part in international service projects in Ghana and Guatemala.
In Ghana, 170 Vivint employees teamed with Globe Aware to help bring clean water to 14 separate villages. The group also helped to construct wells, bathrooms, and showers. They also provided water filters, taught school classes and restored elementary schools. In Guatemala, 25 Vivint employees assisted in the construction of a hospital designed to serve 25,000 villagers in 28 rural communities.
“Many people die every day from water-born illnesses found in unclean water. Installing items as simple as water filters has far reaching benefits,” said Josh Houser, president of Vivint Gives Back. “Because of the amazing dedication of our employees, Vivint Gives Back has helped hundreds of families this year – from children who don’t have enough to eat to those who need a roof over their head and a place to call home.”
Vivint Gives Back also supported women in need by donating $40,000 to the Streets Alive organization to help build a women’s shelter in Canada. And this past summer, Vivint employees packed nearly 210,000 meals for Feed My Starving Children, a non-profit organization that provides food for needy children. The prepared meals helped to feed 575 children over the course of the year.
In December, nearly 1200 Vivint employees and executives wrapped Christmas gifts and presented them to parents and students of an elementary school in Salt Lake City where 97 percent of the families live below the poverty threshold. The effort was part of the Vivint Sub for Santa program that helped more than 2,100 kids throughout North America during the holiday season. Vivint employees donated $80,000 from their individual paychecks to shop and purchase gifts for children in need. Vivint corporate matched the employee donation dollar-for-dollar for a total Vivint contribution of $160,000 over the holiday season.
Many additional Vivint Gives Back projects already are in the planning stages for 2013, including the building of an orphanage and providing books and additional educational tools for 14 villages throughout Mexico.
About Vivint Gives Back

The program focuses the efforts of the company's employees and owners, who contribute time, money, and volunteer hours to perform service in their communities. CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va., Nov. 28 - The Sustainable Packaging Coalition (SPC), a project of sustainability nonprofit Green
Blue, is pleased to announce additional participants in the soft launch of its pioneering How2Recycle on-package
recycling labeling system. Major brand names, including Best Buy, Clorox, and Minute Maid, will be joining 10 other leading companies already participating in the soft launch, including Costco Wholesale, General Mills, Seventh Generation, and REI, in implementing the label on select packaging available nationwide in early 2013. Additionally, the SPC has announced its five-year plan for the labeling system.
How2Recycle was developed to reduce consumer confusion around recycling in the United States with a clear and consistent recycling label and corresponding informational website,how2recycle.info. It provides companies with an easy way to conform to the Federal Trade Commission’s (FTC) “Green Guides” while using nationwide recyclability data. While several other recycling labels and symbols exist, the How2Recycle Label is the only one that communicates recyclability across all material types and gives explicit directions to consumers to influence their recycling behavior. It also specifies when a package component is not recyclable.
The How2Recycle Label will be appearing on a new juice product from Minute Maid, Clorox’s Scoop Away products, and select Exclusive Brands products from Best Buy.
“Reducing our environmental footprint is important to Clorox. One way we can do this is to encourage consumers to recycle our packages. Consumers understand the concept of recycling but are frequently confused on what packages can or can’t be recycled. They want the process to be easier and we think the recovery label does just that,” said Gwen Lorio of Clorox. “As we enable consumers to recycle correctly, we ensure more quality recycled material is available for us to use, our consumers send less waste to landfill, and we can reduce the energy needed to create new packages. Overall, this can be a win for us all.”
The How2Recycle Label can already be found on numerous products available (or soon to be available) in the marketplace, including Esteé Lauder’s Aveda Outer Peace Acne Pads; a variety of Kirkland products from Costco Wholesale; General Mills’ Yoplait yogurt brand; Microsoft computer accessories; REI’s Novara bicycle accessories, multi-towels, and hang tags; most Seventh Generation products; and Sealed Air’s Fill-Air inflatable packaging. A photo gallery of the packages carrying the label that are currently in the market is available here.
The soft launch of the label will run through the first quarter of 2013. Full implementation of the label will begin thereafter and will incorporate feedback gathered during the soft launch period from consumers, retailers, participating companies, local governments, trade associations, and recyclers. The SPC plans to add up to 20 additional participants after the soft launch phase and aims for the label to appear on the majority of consumer product packaging by 2016.
Companies interested in using the label on their products after the soft launch period can contact GreenBlue Senior Manager Anne Bedarf for more information at 434.817.1424 ext. 314 or

“We look forward to taking this long-term SPC project to the next level,” said Bedarf, who along with GreenBlue Project Associate Danielle Peacock has shepherded the process. “With the revision of the FTC’s Green Guides now out, attention again has turned to accurate and transparent recyclability messaging, and the SPC’s How2Recycle Label is quickly becoming the industry standard. We designed the business model with a tiered structure to encourage participation by businesses of all sizes, and we look forward to working with a diverse group of forward-thinking companies as we enter the next phase.”
