molson the wonderdogFor anyone contemplating adopting a rescued dog there is only one piece of advice I can give: DO IT! If you are familiar with Molsie's Blog you will know that I have delved into the land of adopting a rescue before. Molson was a treasure to behold and for 15 years my family and I were blessed with this amazing creature. He came to me via his own story as a gift from my dying sweet golden retriever Dawn and I truly believe he then paid it forward and sent us Dexter.

In the year since I have last written, Dexter has grown into this funny, energetic, gorgeous, demonstrative 100lb plus hunk of love! He doesn't miss a trick to make our hearts do a flip several times a day! One example of this would be how in the wee early morning hours he will inevitably drag himself still half asleep to either my husband’s face or mine and kiss us then drag himself back to the bottom of the bed and go back to sleep. I know he is waking us up, but the intent behind it melts our heart and I can go on for the rest of my life having my sleep interrupted by him, if only he could!

I wish everyone would bring a rescue home because the true thread that connects every rescue is once you take them home and into your heart and it finally clicks in their head that they are safe and loved, they will teach you the true meaning of unconditional love!

The obvious physical transformations where you can see with your own eyes how they get healthy, fill out, grow back hair, heal from infections and wounds, become less angry are easy to spot! Others, the emotional scars illustrated in such behaviour as not approaching their food bowl because they are afraid of a beating or never entering a door that is not 100% open because they have been caught too many times having it slammed on them and more stories too horrific to contemplate can bring such joy when you realize there is no longer fear in their eyes. Some behaviour end up as quirks which will last a life time but the fear has been erased so you just go with it and call it eccentric behaviour with a smile!

We all have gone by that pet store and seen a puppy that calls our name and yes they deserve a home too and there are respected breeders out there absolutely. But if at all possible find it in your heart to bring one of these lost souls into your home and the one thing you will truly find is that YOU won't be a lost soul anymore!

This is a picture of Dexter, already on the road to recovery after his rescue. Its picture of what a puppy shouldn’t look like, malnourished with mange, translucent skin exposed because of excessive hair loss with clumps of still remaining hair falling out. Ribs poking through the skin just waiting for the time he can finally go home.

The Picture that reached out from miles away! Just when we were starting to contemplate getting another beloved member of the family I started to look at different rescue adoption sites and this little face called out to us. We weren’t ready and were planning on waiting several more months but once we saw this picture that eerily resembled Molson as a puppy we were lost…and found!

Dexter’s family were all rescued as well so we brought everyone together for a reunion in Montpellier Vermont. Callie(sister) Molly(mom)Dexter and Chester(brother)

This is what Pay it Forward is all about, all of my beloved did this, my Dawn did it for Molson and then Molson did it for Dexter!
