Adventures of a Trike Trekker- A Friday Morning Trek

tricycleToday's trike ride was a last minute decision to get out there fast before it got too uncomfortable and dangerous.  There's a health warning out, you see.  Supposed to be 116 degrees today!  What a summer!  Yep, back in the pool today.  Yesterday at this same time it was almost 10 degrees hotter and more humid.  So before I knew it I was on my trike and headed north.

tricycleI ended up again on Lost Creek Canyon Drive, the section with the custom homes west of Verrado Way.  It's really a beautiful cul-de-sac.  While I've been there before, this time I stopped afterwards to take a couple photos of the picnic tables to show they do indeed exist for my sister-in-law's inquiry.  I drank some of my bottled water and read a magazine but this was after I headed up an offshoot hill that I dared not attempt before -- and with good reason.  As I guessed, I couldn't make it!  However, that wasn't going to stop me.  I dismounted my bike and I hiked it a few, what, feet (?) and then hopped back on.

At the top there's a cul-de-sac with numbered lots.  Wanna build there?adventures of a trike trekker blog

I walked halfway up from those houses.  This is looking down, south, toward the town of Buckeye.  See the incline?  Now do you understand my initial hesitancy?  No gear on the trike was low enough.  And for a mere $1000+ more, I could've had a motor too!  Imagine that!

Going down was a breeze!  No, I mean it.  Even felt a little cool.  When I hit 13 mph, I got a little nervous and used my brakes to slow me down.  I mean, after all, I'm no speed demon.  (Poor Sahuaro to the left.  Didn't make it.)

Then I headed east across Verrado Way to the gated condo community - been there before, too.  This time, tho', for the first time, I rode through it (from west to east), out the opposite gate, and found myself on a road through some houses that led to a trail through a small wilderness around the golf course.  I discovered that hiking trail previously and perhaps, since my trike started trembling beneath me, it was to the chagrin of my first flat inner tube, as "it" might have felt.   (Remember that huge thorn?)  But I turned south instead and stopped quickly at another park I had visited also once before and this time I snapped a couple photos of, yep, a picnic table for you-know-who!  :)

I rode north, then west, backtracking thru the gated condo community, through the golf course, (that's the golf cart trail below - oh, to be able to ride that!) then south, back across Verrado Way down to Poet's Park and home again.

You may remember Lynne from this previous post.

She will be sharing her adventures in a new blog for Four Green Steps!
