Organization Name: A Greener Kitchen

Founder: Lacey Lybecker

Year Founded: 2009

What inspired your company and/or product? eco-friendly organic kitchen apron from a greener kitchen

From shelling garden peas with mom to watching grandma bake bread, I’ve always been surrounded by simple, wholesome food. Watching my mom grow her own business, I also grew up with an entrepreneurial spirit. The two loves came together with the launch of A Greener Kitchen in 2009. Already a proponent of local, organic food, I wanted to help cooks green their kitchen routine in ways beyond just what they put on their plates.

I partnered with my mom’s sewing manufacturing company, the business I grew up with, to produce a line of organic cotton kitchen textiles. We use fair-trade certified organic cotton designed by one of the USA’s few eco-friendly textile artisans to create eco-chic products for retail stores, home kitchens, bakeries, restaurants, and more.

What do you consider the most rewarding aspect of your job?

I enjoy working with customers who are truly grateful for the products we offer - sustainable, yet affordable and stylish accessories. Working with clients on custom orders is especially rewarding, offering them eco-friendly aprons or custom kitchen products for their fundraisers, homes, or start-up businesses.

AGK_Apron_Eugene2What is the best tip you can share to go Green?

Take one step at a time. You don't have to be all or nothing to make an environmental impact. Choose one initiative and once you've mastered it, take on another. Every small step you take, from composting to buying a sustainably made product, does make a difference.

Advice you would give to other entrepreneurs?

Be persistent! Growing a business comes with an armful of growing pains, but be true to who you are and what you envision for your business and keep going. The opportunities and successes will arrive when you are ready to take them on. All the seeds you are planting now will break through the soil and grow larger than you ever expected, all in due time.
