Natural Relief for Seasonal Allergies

http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1074/1013258346_3bcb7f19e1.jpgIt is that time of the year again, spring season, which is otherwise known as allergy season. Many people suffer through allergy season with runny noses, watery eyes, and a lot of sneezing. The best all natural ways to achieve allergy relief are herbal allergy remedies. Seasonal allergies are the reactions our immune system develops in response to harmless particles circulating in the air. These particles include pollen, dust and animal dander. The immune system misconstrues these particular particles as harmful. As a result, our body begins to release chemicals, like histamine, to fight them in hopes of permanent elimination.

Histamine has an effect on numerous parts of the body including the eyes, nose, throat, lungs and skin. This substance released by the body causes a variety of allergy symptoms which include sneezing, itchy eyes and a runny nose. Mucous membranes of the nose and respiratory tract are affected which causes people with seasonal allergies to become more susceptible to catching colds, sinusitis, influenza and other respiratory infections.

Nettle, a plant with stinging with leaves, contains properties of an antihistamine and is considered to be one of the most effective natural remedies for allergy relief. Nettle works particularly well to treat reactions associated with the respiratory system. This herb can be used in tea as a dried herb or taken orally in the form of a capsule. Angelica is also an herb that can aid with allergy relief. Its purpose is to block antibodies that are the source of allergic reactions.

Licorice is considered to be a natural anti-inflammatory that helps encourage the production of cortisol. Cortisol is a hormone that is known to reduce inflammation. On a side note, consumption of licorice can lead to increased blood pressure, so be sure to consult a physician if you are currently taking medication for blood pressure. Marshmallow is another natural allergy remedy to prevent inflammation. In addition, it is an expectorant, meaning it is used to treat coughs. Raw honey that is produced locally is another natural relief for allergies. Raw honey contains pollen from local plans which can help your body adapt to having them in your environment and combat seasonal allergies.

Elder is a flower that acts as a decongestant to help ease symptoms of inflammation that develop in the nasal and sinus passages. Chamomile is a natural remedy used to treat external symptoms, one of which being hives, because it is gentle when applied directly to parts of the body being treated. Goldenseal, which is a small woodland plant, benefits in terms of boosting the immune system and restricting infections from getting worse.

Herbal allergy remedies can ease the discomfort associated with pollen, hay fever and ragweed allergies. However, if you are currently taking medication, be sure to consult with a physician to assure that none of the herbs associated with natural remedies will cause a reaction when being used in conjunction with other medication.

Natural remedies are both safe and effective to relieving the irritation that accompanies all of your allergy symptoms. As a result, you can assure yourself that you will not experience any potentially irritating side-effects. In addition to being safe and effective, natural remedies are chemical-free!
