Oh the horror, the horror...my favourite towels used as floor mats for the dog to clean his paws on from the backyard mud-and left there for a whole week just to see how dirty they would become! At first I wasn’t happy, who could have put those soft fluffy towels onto the back yard entrance stairs? Who should I confront first, certainly not my beloved 100Lbs-plus puppy, maybe the 200lb...No, I digress! After the initial dismay a light bulb moment came on or as Oprah would say an “AHA Moment”, although clearly while not earth shattering it did present a fortuitous opportunity! New Year, new opportunities...

As many of you may remember we took our Four Green Steps team down to the Los Angeles Green Festival in October to be partners in the event and celebrate our official launch. Not only did we get to meet many wonderful people who care about the environment as much as we do, we came back with a line up of new vendors with amazing products for our marketplace! Or as I like to say “Win...win”!

We also returned home with boxes full of samples of some of our new products and have been receiving intriguing packages at the office from many of our vendors both old and new ever since, so now we can actually try the products and let everyone know what we think.

Some of these samples will be tried and blogged about like the one I am doing now, some will have video blogs with us trying out the new products and some will have Fivel and/or Booboo Stewart also video blogging or writing about new products. I already know of two products that Fivel has used that we gave her to try at the Green Festival and can’t wait for everyone to see what she says. I happen to know one is now her very favourite...you will just have to wait and see her posting!

So let’s go back to my towels, while not the newest in my cupboard they are my absolute favourite, their weight, softness and absorbability for me are 10 out of 10. I am hoping they have time left before I have to go on the hunt for new ones. So that brings me back to the gnarly dirty looking towels that now need to be washed.

One of our new products is Life Miracle Magnetic Laundry System a detergent free method that gets your clothes clean, or so they claim. For me if this product really works it would be fabulous because my husband is ultra sensitive to detergent and anything scented can trigger a migraine for me so I usually buy fragrance free, phosphate free, everything free as possible detergent and fabric softener and then double rinse.

So with hope in my heart and skepticism in my brain I brought a package of these magnetic puppies home and gave them a whirl!

***Cautionary note, I also made sure they were nowhere near my laptop, blackberry or any other electronic device when I brought it home. Right there on the package it tells you CAUTION: keep product away from computers, electronics and anything adversely affected by magnets!

First I read the instructions and as easy as 1, 2, 3 I was good to go. Open package, take out the two magnets, pull them apart, place inside the drum of your machine and add clothes and fill with water making sure the magnets are below the water line and away you go.

So how did they work, take a look at the pictures!

What I didn’t show  you was how the dirt and I am not exactly sure what those pools of mud were, but stuff rose to the top of the water like when you are making soup and you skim off the top, there it was floating ready to be washed down the drain and not in the towels. The instructions mention since you are not using soap you don’t have to use the rinse cycle which can save you money and water.  However I noticed that even in my rinse cycle I had some suds coming up so that indicated to me that there must be soap residue left in my wash. Until the time comes that I don’t see any residue from past detergent and fabric softener floating in my rinse cycle I won’t consider the non-rinse option. Actually, I probably always will go with that extra rinse cycle…did I mention I had a 100 lb-plus puppy?

So no soap, I didn’t use fabric softener because I wanted to truly see how the Magnetic Laundry System works without anything added and…

…wow, they came out great! Soft, clean smelled fresh. Who knew you could wash your clothes without soap and actually get them clean? Next my sheets, then my jeans and after that I am going to try them on my fine washables
