Even though Canadian thanksgiving was a month ago, I still have a lot to be thankful for. I am thankful for my good health and the health of my family. I am thankful for this delicious Portuguese french toast delicacy I am currently eating. I am thankful that my best friend got the weekend off to come home from New York. I am thankful that my car engine blew up so now I have to look into leasing a more fuel efficient one (this is already a week removed, ask me how I felt when it happened and you’ll get a vey different response). Ok I’ll stop. Point being that even though it is in fact American thanksgiving, Canadians can still all use this weekend to remember what we are thankful for (politically we are just an extension of the US anyways, might as well embrace it).
This year, many Americans are saying no to turkey and yes to its imposter friend Tofurkey (Et tu Brute?). Tofurkey has been “America’s Leading Turkey Alternative Since 1995.” With approximately 7.3 million Vegetarians in the US, it’s nice to see that people can still join in on the Thanksgiving festivities without feeling ethically compromised. So if you’re an American vegetarian, cheer up! You have options! You can purchase Tofurkey, it’s competitor Quorn, which is actually made from a fungus (ew!) called mycoprotein, or you can buy Gardein Stuffed Veggie Turkey Roast. Apparently Gardein is the tastiest of them all, but you be the judge!
If you don’t want to buy faux turkey, you can always experiment with a recipe at home! I’ve included a homemade tofu turkey recipe in the recipes section of the community. Click HERE to check it out!
In my next blog post I will explore the effects of meat production on the environment, and why SUV drivers have a smaller carbon footprint than meat eaters.
Happy thanksgiving everyone, wherever you are!

Until next time,
Same green time, same green station.

PS. This photo of George W. is funny, regardless of whether you're a republican, democrat, independent, or apathetic! (Haha, please note the grimaces on the other two men.)
