Earth Day is this Sunday April 22nd!!

Following the great success of World Earth Hour held on March 31st, where over a hundred countries and participated in shutting off their lights for an hour to celebrate their commitment to the planet, International Earth Day will be held on the 22^nd of April this year.

Earth Day is an event held internationally each year with the purpose of increasing awareness and appreciation for the Earth’s natural environment and resources. Presently, over 175 countries celebrate Earth Day each year.

The first Earth Day was held on April 22^nd, 1970 in the United States. The first Canadian Earth Day was held on Thursday, September 11, 1980, and was organized by a Queen's University grad student. International Earth Day was later declared as April 22^nd and became a global phenomenon by the 1990s.
