lee_myung_bak_20091123-050820-6_web-1South Korea is definitely making Santa’s nice list this year (sorry, North Korea, looks like another lump of coal for you!). The “other” Korea is the first emerging economy to make an absolute reduction commitment towards combating climate change. The Asian nation has pledged to cut gas emissions by 4% compared to 2005 levels by 2020 and also offered to hold the COP18 conference taking place in 2012. Man I wouldn’t want to be North Korea right now; their mother must love South Korea so much more.

In other news, France, Britain, Germany, and the US had a 50 minute long discussion today coordinating their positions via video conference (Imagine the Skype nickname showing up on Gordon Brown’s computer screen: Da Bomb A is calling).  The four nations have assigned their staff to work closely with one another in the days to come.

And France and Indonesia are working towards an ambitious agreement together. The leaders met in Paris on Monday to discuss saving tropical forests. French President Sarkozy is supporting a plan to fight deforestation, a cause that is very important to Indonesian President Yudhoyono given that 10% of the world’s forests are in Indonesia.

So there’s today’s highlights in Copenhagen, things are bound to stay very interesting so keep reading our daily updates!

Until next time,

Same green time, same green station.
