A friend of mine recently brought a rather alarming but equally hilarious website to my attention. It’s called Conservapedia. It’s exactly what you assume it would be, but better. Conservapedia is essentially the Wikipedia for the Right-leaning world. So if you need your daily dose of propaganda, search up your favourite political topic, and voila! All the bias fun anyone could ever imagine right at your fingertips!
Conservapedia uses the Wikipedia model to provide Conservatives with a database for all of their skewed perspectives on reality. Take ‘global warming’ for example. Did you know that “the reality is that there is no global crisis?” It’s true! It says so right there, two paragraphs in on the Conservapedia entry for ‘Global Warming’. Despite the sound scientific evidence to the contrary, Conservapedia clears up the issue for all of those who would prefer to have their head in the sand while the rest of us face the music and incorporate environmental responsibility into our lives.
Majority of the entry denies anthropogenic global warming is even happening and points fingers at Liberal policymakers trying to use the issue as a means to obtain greater control over energy usage and production. Later on in the description, in a brief section titled 'Benefits of Global Warming,' Conservapedia describes the potential benefits of this global warming phenomenom that have been overlooked. So, which one is it? Is global warming a figment created by the evil Left's socialist imagination? Or is it actually happening but the evil Left has framed it in a way that ensures the transition to more socialist government policies? Note to Conservapedia writers: stick to one argument when trying to persuade your readers your rhetoric is actually fact. Better yet, if you're going to go forward with multiple arguments, refrain from picking one that disproves the other.
Conservapedia would actually have been a good idea, if the wording wasn’t so beyond subjective it makes Mel Gibson look like a rational human being. With the current highly sensationalized and divided political climate, a Wikipedia style website for both the Left and the Right could have been extremely beneficial to the electorate. It could have acted as a source of clarification for those wishing to understand the polarizing perspectives in U.S. politics today. However, Conservapedia lacks any semblance of objectivity and exists purely to recharge the Rush Limbaugh followers when his three-hour radio platform to spew nonsense comes to an end.
For more lackluster Conservative perspectives, check out the site for yourself at www.conservapedia.com. Might I suggest looking up such politically charged issues as 'Abortion' and 'Health Care' to get you going in the Right direction? Compliments of the chef.
