Create Awareness with a Cause

recycleHave you noticed that your local eateries don’t recycle? Are your city’s streets not accommodating to bicyclists? Would a community garden enhance your neighborhood? Is there a need for more trees in your community? Whatever sparked your interest, creating awareness in your community for an eco-friendly cause has become your passion. Gathering awareness in your community isn’t a difficult thing to do when you know how. If you’ve found a need for community involvement, no matter what the cause, here are the steps that you can take:

Set Your Goals

Before you start planning your event, decide what it is that you hope to achieve. Do you have a monetary goal in mind? Do you have a goal for tangible donations? Deciding what your ultimate goals are will help you structure your event accordingly.

Choose an Event Type

What kind of event will you be hosting? If you’re raising money to get bike lanes, a bike-a-thon is a great way to raise money. If you’re collecting donations for a community garden, you can host a picnic in the park or backyard. Think of an event that people will want to attend.

Set the Date

Look at your calendar and decide on a date and time for your event. You’ll want to contact your venue and make sure that the date is open. You’ll also want to be sure that the date doesn’t conflict with any other major community events. You want your event to stand out, not fade into the background.

Gather Necessary Permits

If you’ll be holding a public fundraiser, you may need to secure permits from your city or county. Contact city hall with the details of your event to find out if you need a permit and how much it will cost. If you are holding your event in a local park, you will need to contact the authorities that own and operate it for permit information.

Book Entertainment

You’ll want something exciting to attract people to your event! It doesn’t matter if it’s a deejay, a movie, a guest speaker or great door prizes. Try to think of something that will make people want to attend your fundraiser and support your cause. Not only will your entertainment attract people, but it will make your event memorable. Memorable events get talked about! There’s no easier way to spread the news about your cause than by word of mouth.

Personalized T-Shirts

Gather a group of friends and family that are sympathetic to your cause and use them for free advertising! Make and order a dozen printed T-shirts for your willing volunteers. Ask that they wear these shirts when they go to the mall, run the kids to school and even when they go out to eat. Make sure that your shirts are printed with the name of your cause, the place, date and time of your event!

Hang Flyers

Design a flyer and print out a 100 of them. Make sure you use a company that is eco friendly so that you can ensure you are continuing your help with the environment. Hang your flyers in any businesses that will permit you to do so. Pass them out on the street and distribute them around your neighborhood. Keep your stack of flyers with you so you never miss an opportunity to promote your event!

Raising awareness for an eco friendly cause can be incredibly fulfilling. Raising awareness can also be very time consuming. Follow the tips in this article and your event will go off without a hitch! Organization will be the key to your success.
