So you sat in the dark for Earth Hour and started using a reusable grocery bag. Think there’s nothing more you can do to help the Earth? Forget planting a tree, we have ten fun ways to give back to the environment and celebrate another year of Earth Day.
- Start a compost! It’s easy, has many benefits and is the way of the future for many large municipalities. Not sure where to start? Everything you need to know and more Here.
- Go Vegetarian or Vegan for the day (or longer if you can!) Try some of our delicious Green recipes and learn more about why you should consider giving up meat.
- Host a swap party. Instead of spending the day shopping, save money and spend time with friends cleaning out your closets.
- Bike! Earth Day also marks the beginning of Spring, so leave the car in your garage and bike! You’ll feel better from the exercise, fresh air, and incredible amount of money you will save in gas and repairs. It’s also more fun than sitting in traffic!
- Go Amish for the day (horse & buggy optional). Take a mini-vacation from technology and see how long you can push Earth Hour and rely on candles, it’s the easiest way to create an atmosphere and cheap, elegant way to decorate any event!
- Get crafty and see if you can Do-It-Yourself. Check out our DIY section for everything from Spring fashions to upcycled décor.
- Start a vegetable garden! Anyone can do it, it doesn’t matter if you live in the suburbs or a fourteenth floor apartment. Click HERE for a how-to guide.
- Cut back on costs and energy waste. Spend the day reducing energy waste in your house: Hook up your appliances to a powerbar, consider turning off your water heater while you sleep or are at work and find a shower timer so you don’t waste water, energy or time!
- See what’s happening in your community for Earth Day and see how you can participate or get involved.
- Get Creative! Share your ideas and use your knowledge to educate others! Submit your thoughts, articles and even recipes to our Four Green Steps Community!
