Four Steps to Greening Your Electrical Bill

green lightbulbOne of the best benefits of conserving energy is that it's a great way to conserve money. By cutting back on the electricity you use each month the Earth (and your wallet) will thank you, and thanks to these four steps, conserving energy is easier than ever.

1. Unplug what you aren't using (Except the fridge, unless you like milk that is spolied and room temperature). Even if an appliance is off it is still adding to your electrical bill by being plugged in. To make it easier, especially for appliances like televisions, use a power strip you can switch on and off for ultimate convenience.Take it to the next level by turning off your water heater whenever you can: at work, sleeping, on vacation. Why pay for hot water you aren't using?

2. Stock up on soy candles. Why wait until the power goes out to light candles? They create instant ambiance, are relaxing and are a great way to decorate any room.

3. Buy energy saving lightbulbs (and don't forget to turn them off!). They last years longer than normal lightbulbs and use much less electricity. Although they contain some mercury many stores such as IKEA offer recycling for them.

4. Choose activities that require the least electricity. Why watch reruns of Will & Grace when you could be reading, or playing Wii Fit when you could be outside jogging? Anything that benefits the Earth seems to directly benefit our health and wellness at the same time.
