The massive BP oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico has spurred scientists and engineers to consider numerous solutions to clean up the slick — from erecting a giant underwater dome to contain the spill to setting it on fire (update: according to the Washington Post, it looks like the Coast Guard is going ahead with their plan to set the oil spill ablaze). But what if the slick could be cleaned up in a way that is totally organic? One very unusual solution calls for the use of mushrooms and hair (yes, mushrooms and hair) to absorb the oil. The technique is tried and true — it was actually used in the Cosco Busan oil spill of ‘07!

Portland held it’s famous (or perhaps, infamous) naked bike ride this past weekend in an effort to raise awareness of eco-friendly transportation. Portland, Oregon (Where nudity is generally legal) was proud to celebrate their 8th annual Naked bike ride since they first began in 2004.

The snare had previously trapped a juvenile in the gorilla clan named Ngwino who died of her injuries at the Karisoke Research Center in Volcanoes National Park, Rwanda. So two young gorillas took matters into their own hands.
Even though the park is a wildlife refuge, poaching is still a huge issue. Poachers set the snares for antelope and other game, but young apes are known to get caught in them. While mature adults are strong enough to break free, juveniles often suffer serious injuries, like the deep lacerations inflicted upon Ngwino who died of gangrene because she was found too late.
